More than 4,000 people evicted from Bukinda Kyangwali in Kikuube district by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in 2013 are still living in dire conditions on a small plot of land offered by area Woman MP Florence Natumanya.
Families reside in makeshift structures, lack clean water, and cannot afford school materials for their children, while district officials say the matter is beyond their authority.
Since 2020, the displaced population has lived along Hoima-Kagadi Road in Kiziranfumbi, eking out a living by digging in nearby gardens.
Despite holding national identity cards and land ownership documents, they remain without proper burials, schools, or social services.
John Barisimaki, the camp chairman, said they have petitioned government offices, including the President’s, with no resolution.
“We have suffered for long. Life is hard. When we lose our people, they are buried at the health centre. We have met senior people in government but they don't care,” he said.
Barisimaki added that MPs who once sought their support, including Francis Kazini and Florence Natumanya, no longer respond to their concerns.
The Kikuube vice chairman, Vincent Opio, confirmed local leaders have recommended government action, but no solid response has been received.
Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Godwin Angalia said the matter is being handled and promised a lasting solution before the end of the year, involving all relevant stakeholders including the OPM.
